Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Expected to Decline in Sales in 2009

Volkswagen Group said on Wednesday (March 25) that after the mass commercial vehicle business hit a record high in 2008, it may experience a decline in 2009.

Despite the expected decline in sales, the public still hopes to increase its global market share in 2009. In 2008, Volkswagen’s global market share increased slightly to 15%. At present, VW is still the best-selling brand in the European light car market.

“In 2008, the mass of light trucks sold a total of 332,000 vehicles in the European market. This will not win the championship and further widen the gap with competitors.” Stephan Schaller, spokesman for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, at the annual media conference in Hanover on the 25th Indicated.

In 2008, the Volkswagen truck sector sold a total of 503,000 light trucks, which was 3% more than the 489,000 vehicles in 2007. At the same time, this is the first time that the Volkswagen Truck Division has sold more than 500,000 vehicles.

In early March, Volkswagen Group announced that its net profit in 2008 increased by 4.8 billion euros from 4.1 billion euros in 2007; overall sales of the group increased by 4.5% from the same period of last year, from 109 billion euros to 114 billion euros.
