According to reports, the 10 petroleum and chemical companies supervised by Shaanxi Province are Shaanxi Shenmu Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Beiyuan Chemical Co., Ltd., Yulin Natural Gas Chemical Co., Ltd., Yulin Changqing Methanol Factory, Yulin Refinery, and Yanchang Petroleum Administration Bureau Yongping. Refinery, Shaanxi Chemical Plant, Shaanxi Huashan Chemical Group Co., Ltd., Shaanxi Xinghua Group Co., Ltd., Xi'an North Huian Chemical Industry Co., Ltd.
After the Songhua River water pollution incident last year, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Shaanxi Province organized an environmental safety inspection from December 2005 to January 2006. It focused on examining 55 large and medium-sized chemical companies and found that 25 companies had environmental problems, especially Shaanxi Petroleum Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. and other 10 oil and chemical companies are more serious. Some of these enterprises are lack of contingency plans for sudden environmental incidents, and others are excessive emissions. The Environmental Protection Bureau of Shaanxi Province has supervised and sponsored the 10 petroleum and chemical companies, requiring serious efforts to rectify environmental risks, prevent pollution accidents, and effectively protect urban and rural drinking water sources.
