The global car recall phenomenon is becoming more and more frequent 60% due to mechanical hazards

According to a survey released by the German Automotive Research Center on September 1st, the phenomenon of car recalls has become more and more frequent and has caused automobile manufacturers to be extremely annoyed. The results of the survey show that during the two years from June 2002 to June this year, Renault Motors of France was forced to take 18 recalls and it was the worst performer among major auto companies. BMW followed closely after 10 times. Among other major auto companies, Nissan has 9; Mazda and Mercedes have 8 each; Audi, KIA, Volvo and Volkswagen have 7 each; Fiat, Honda, Jaguar and SAAB each have 5; Chrysler and Peugeot have 4 each; Ford and SEAT , Toyota 3 times each; Opel, Simate, Citroen each 2 times. Even expensive sports cars were not spared. Porsche and Ferrari requested customers to return their cars to the factory for repairs four times and twice a year. In the two years of the investigation, only a few manufacturers of Hyundai, DAIHATSU, Daewoo, Lada, LAMBORGHINI, and MASERATI have not taken any recall action. The person in charge of the survey stated that the increasing diversity of vehicle models, complex manufacturing processes, and short research and development time, forcing manufacturers to shorten the simulation test cycle and other factors are the main reasons leading to the increasing number of car recalls. The diversification of car models and series further exacerbated this problem. The survey shows that about 40% of the recalled cars are caused by the failure of the electronic system; 60% are due to the mechanical aspects of the car. So far, although the German Automobile Authority also announces the number of cars recalled each year, it never mentions the names of car manufacturers.
