IBM shows its brain-like chip

IBM's computer chip, called TrueNorth, was designed to simulate the function of the human brain. The company is currently running tests and benchmarks to demonstrate how fast and efficient the operation is.
IBM stated that TrueNorth can engage in deep learning, and based on probability, is like the decision of the human brain. It can do this while consuming a fraction of the power of the chips used by other computers for the same purpose.
The learning and computing capabilities of a TrueNorth chip will open the possibilities of embedding intelligence into robots, cars, cloud computing, and even supercomputers from the entire computing stack of the Internet of Things.

IBM earlier this year demonstrated a new computer called the NS16e, which is a brain modeled on the chip. The computer can be used for image, speech and pattern recognition through the processing unit's neural network.
IBM stated that TrueNorth processors can consume only 25 to 275 milliwatts of power to classify image data. This is more energy efficient than today's servers, which rely on traditional chips like GPUs, CPUs and FPGAs for image and speech recognition.
IBM also established quantum computers as an option to replace current PCs and servers, which are based on decades of old computer designs.
