Grasping the Opportunities for China's Petrochemical Projects Multinational Companies Accelerate Technology Transfer and Project Contracting

With the acceleration of the construction of new projects of Sinopec and the expansion of existing facilities, many foreign companies have seized the opportunity of the rapid development of China's petrochemical industry and have participated in the transfer of technology and project contracting with their own proprietary technologies and advanced technologies. This will enable Chinese and foreign parties to achieve a win-win and mutual benefit in accelerating the construction of China's petrochemical projects.

CNPC's investment in building a world-scale oil refinery with a capacity of 10 million tons/year and 1.2 million tons/year of ethylene in Dushanzi is an important part of the energy cooperation strategy between China and Kazakhstan. Among them, the 10 million-ton/year oil refinery project introduced the UOP technology project in the United States in January 2005. In addition, eight world-renowned patent and engineering companies such as Linde have also received the contract for the introduction of the project.

The Sinopec and CNOOC joint ventures with BASF, Shell and BP to build a three-company petrochemical joint venture project attracted a group of multinational companies. The Japanese engineering company JGC (Japanese Volkswagen) Co., Ltd. is responsible for the construction of the Huizhou cracker, the Nanjing ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol plant and the pure benzene and butadiene plant in Nanhai; the Japanese consortium headed by Chiyoda is responsible for building the styrene/epoxy project in Nanjing. Propane plant, and subcontracted with Mitsubishi to build South Sea project styrene monomer and propylene oxide and other devices. Many of these devices are provided by Shell Technologies, Basel provides technology for PE and PP devices. Tecnicas Rennidas and Tecnimont contracted to build the downstream units in the Huizhou project, Tecnicas Rennidas contracted to build ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol units, and Tecnimont was responsible for building LDPE units, LLDPE/HDPE units, and PP units.

Rums has a long history of investing in China. China's first world-scale ethylene plant built by Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Company adopts Lums technology. Since then, Lums has implemented more than 80 projects in China, and 60% of China's ethylene and styrene have adopted Lummi. Technology. Lums's larger project in China is the Shanghai Secco petrochemical company ethylene and ethylbenzene / styrene monomer device. Currently, Lums has contracted seven ethylene projects in China. These ethylene plants use highly selective pyrolysis furnaces designed by Lums and Sinopec.

Basel is also accelerating the transfer of polyolefin technology to Chinese technology. PetroChina and Basel Corporation signed the second Lupotech T patent technology contract for the construction of LDPE plants for Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, and the construction of the PP plant also uses Basel's Spheripol technology. So far, Basel has transferred 5 Lupotech T technologies in China. The Lupotech T process has become the recommended technology for the Chinese LDPE market. Technip-Coflexip used BP's Innovene technology to design and construct two PE devices for Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Company. The company also contracted to build the world's largest polytetrahydrofuran/tetrahydrofuran integrated unit, which BASF invested exclusively in Shanghai. Year has been fully completed.

Held-Topsoe and China signed two contracts for the transfer of methanol synthesis loop technology and will be used to build two new methanol plants. The contract includes the provision of related technologies, engineering services, catalysts and related equipment.

In addition, there are many chemical plants that also use advanced technology transferred from abroad for construction. The carbonyl alcohol plant of Jilin Petrochemical Company is the fourth technology transfer of the carbonyl synthesis process of Kvaerner Process Technology (KPT)/The Dow Chemical Company in China; Shanghai Petrochemical Company has used the Borstar technology of Borealis to build the world's largest 250,000 tons/year Annual single-series bimodal PE unit; UDE adopts Basel Hastalen technology to build HDPE equipment for Jilin; Novolen Technology Holdings provides PP technology transfer, process design package and related services to Fujian petrochemical project; Singapore SembCorp company and Taiwan project The CTCI company contracted to build a LDPE plant for the Nanjing Yangba Petrochemical project; Foster-Wheeler contracted to build a Shanghai Yankee integrated isocyanate complex plant; Aker Kvaerner contracted to build an acetic acid plant expansion project for Chongqing Yangtze River Acetyl Corporation.

Advanced technologies from abroad also help Chinese chemical companies grow rapidly. China Bluestar (Group) Corp. and British David Technology Co., Ltd. signed a 55,000-ton/year 1,4-butanediol project technology contract and commercial contract. Davy Company transferred its latest fourth-generation technology to Bluestar. Technology for the construction of a 55,000 t/y 1,4-butanediol project at the Bluestar Tianjin Chemical New Material Industrial Park. After the project is completed, it will not only enable Bluestar to further form a complete product chain and enhance its international competitiveness, but will also promote the improvement of domestic 1,4-butanediol production technology.
