Asian spot rubber prices rise tire manufacturers into major buyers

According to Singapore news on December 6, 2010, spot rubber prices in Asia rose, following the rise in Japanese rubber futures. Although coincided with Thai holidays, some exporters still trade.

“The transactions were good in recent days. The weather conditions are still bad. Buyers are worried that they cannot purchase enough cargo and are therefore willing to pay high prices,” said a trading executive.

He added that Japanese tire manufacturers Bridgestone and Michelin bought rubber cargoes.

The shipment of Thailand's No. 3 smoke tablet rubber RSS3 in January was priced at $4,520 per ton, FOB basis.

The Thai tyre grade standard STR20, which was shipped in December, was quoted at US$4,500 per ton, FOB basis.

The Indonesian tire grade standard rubber SIR20, which was shipped in February, was sold at a price of US$4,430 per ton, FOB basis.

January/February shipment of Thailand's No. 3 smoke tablet adhesive RSS3 was reported at 450-452 cents per kilogram, compared with 446-448 cents per kilogram in the previous trading day.

In January/February, Indonesia's tire grade standard rubber SIR20 was reported at 442-443 cents per kilogram, compared with 435 cents per kilogram in the previous trading day.

The January-February-month shipment of Malaysian SMR20 tire standard rubber was reported at 445 cents per kilogram, compared with 440-442 cents per kilogram in the previous trading day.
