Contax and US Genomatica Corporation recently signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement to jointly develop and produce bio-based chemical products based on biomass.
The strategic cooperation between the two parties will include the use of the new PROESATM technology pioneered by Contez and the use of lignocellulose, which is widely available in nature, as a raw material to obtain cost-effective and clean fermentable sugars, combined with the Bio-BDO process of Genomatica. And produce bio-based 1-4 butanediol (BDO).
The strategic cooperation plan between the two parties will be implemented at the Rivalta-Contis R&D center in Italy. It is expected that the construction of the bio-based 1,4-butanediol (BDO) demonstration unit will be completed and put into production in 2012.
At the same time, Contaz will be the preferred partner to provide technical and engineering services to Genomatica's commercial installations for the construction of bio-based chemical products in the future.
