According to the “Vietnamese Economic Times†reported on March 8, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam stated that Vietnam needs to invest 175 trillion VND (about 8 billion U.S. dollars) to develop the plastics industry between 2011 and 2020.
Reported that at present, there are 1,064 plastics enterprises in Vietnam with funds exceeding 100 million VND, mainly concentrated in the southern region. Of these, 80% are concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City and its neighboring provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Duong, and Long An, with 15% in the northern and central regions. In 2010, the export of various types of plastic products in Vietnam reached US$1 billion. On average, the Vietnam plastics industry needs 2.2 million tons of raw materials (excluding hundreds of chemical materials) per year, of which 85% depends on imports.
