"Interconnection" and "User Experience" as the Key to Future Vehicle Information Systems

IVI (In- Vehicle Information System ) is an automotive electronic device that provides safety, environmental protection and comfort functions and services by using computer, satellite positioning, communication, and control technologies. It is an integral part of smart cars. Vehicle information systems include automotive computers, smart navigators, driving recorders, car multimedia and more.

Compared to automotive instrumentation, automotive information systems cover a wider area. How will the vehicle-mounted information system develop in the future under the influx of car networking technology and how to solve the conflict between the iteration cycle of the car and the iterative cycle of the on-board system?

Recently, at the "Car Infotainment System Forum 2014" organized by the China Automotive Consultation Center Network, experts from host companies, parts and components companies and Internet companies such as Microsoft, Gold German, Bluestar, BYD, Chery, Quan Zhi, and Yanfeng Visteon, etc. Engineers elaborated on their respective viewpoints and opinions on the status quo and future development of automotive infotainment systems.

From independence to networking

Microsoft believes that the core of the information age will be "cloud mobile." For an in-vehicle infotainment system, it is from individual individuals that they become more connected.

Shen Yushi, director of cloud computing at Microsoft, pointed out that the information industry has been developing for nearly 100 years. The three most fundamental parts of the information industry are computing, storage, and communications. In the past, they were independent; now, the Internet and mobile Internet have become the trend; in the future, the entire IT industry will be based on big data and cloud platform processing. Car networking will have three major trends: broadband applications, on-board service platform, and intelligent traffic safety.

He also said that the core driving force behind the vehicle terminal system is divided into three levels: the perception layer, the transmission layer, and the processing layer. Perceptual layer refers to the terminal. The car will become a new terminal like the mobile phone, computer and television. The transmission layer refers to 4G, WIFI and Other communication methods; the most fundamental driving force is the processing layer, and the development of wireless network technology is based on cloud. Platform information processing has brought more room for development.

Mobile phone-car internet

The most basic form that we can think of when referring to the Internet of Things is the interconnection between the mobile phone and the car. The simplest of these is the so-called "mapping", which is true of Apple Carplay and Google GAL.

In response to this topic, Mr. Shen Jie, Executive Vice President of Bluestar Technology, introduced the company's recent new i@car mobile phone car interconnection technology. Simply set the "USB debugging" mode on the phone, and connect the phone with the USB cable for the car to operate the application in the phone on the central control screen. The company's other Screen Link technology can interconnect the vehicle-mounted information system with mobile phones, PADs, PCs, and TV screens, complete the transfer of information between multiple platforms and multiple devices, and achieve multi-terminal mutual control. It is the key technology for future onboard information systems.

Shen Jie also pointed out that in the process of interconnecting mobile phones and car machines, the vertical version of the control screen is more easily adapted to the mobile phone app, because most of the mobile phone applications are vertical screen formats. What we know at present is the Tesla Model S and the second-generation Volvo XC90.

Can the mobile phone screen replace the car screen?

In a roundtable discussion session on the topic of "How to Embody Customer-centric Ideas in Automotive Information Systems?" and "How Does Cars Continue to Innovate Under the Cloud Platform?", one of the participants raised this question - - Will mobile phones and vehicles co-exist or will slowly replace mobile devices with mobile devices?

To address this issue, many experts including the Beiqi Research Institute’s engineers generally believe that “it is impossible to replace”. There are many reasons, such as different operating conditions of mobile phones and vehicle machines, and different product standards. Vehicles need to meet many stringent durability tests, and mobile phones cannot achieve such standards.

In addition, on this issue, I once asked Bo Yi’s chairman, Yi Yung. It pointed out that the future mobile phone will become a chip, and even implanted into the brain; while the car will be further connected with the city. The future car screen may not be just the current size, it will occupy the entire instrument. When playing music in the car, the car screen will switch scenes according to music, such as the beach, the starry sky and so on. "When the car can do this level, can the phone replace it?" Should always say.

In summary, it is the phone that never brings the same experience as the car.

The onboard information system is actually an internet terminal

Mr. Zhou Feng, Vice President of Goldtech Software Co., Ltd. elaborated his views on the car infotainment system from the perspective of user experience.

He pointed out that the iterative cycle of automotive products and Internet products is different, which also determines that once the automotive products are inaccurately positioned for consumers, it will cause great losses; and Internet products can be updated and optimized in a short period of time. . So how to solve this problem? Weeks frequency believes that the car infotainment system can change a car's original positioning, through the update and design changes in this system, can make up for the longer automotive iterations of the defects.

He said that how to use a powerful cloud service technology to make a car into an Internet terminal and let users experience a higher level is something that major component manufacturers and OEMs need to consider.

Although the content of the speeches of various experts is different, we can still deduce a main line that the current car infotainment system will be based on a powerful cloud service platform and become more connected and more user-oriented.

Positioning Platform

Designed for long life, high duty cycle and the ability to work in the harshest environments, these smart electric linear actuators with brushless motors deliver bar-setting, world-class performance with 100% duty cycle of maintenance-free life. The high duty cycle actuator is well suited for many applications – most notably mobile battery powered ones – that previously have had to employ more expensive and complex solutions.
