Yao Yongqiang, the deputy commissioner of Ali Regional Administrative Office and the chief researcher of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told reporters on the 6th that the Alibi project is called the “Alibaba initial gravitational wave detection experiment” plan. The plan includes two parts, Ali 1 and Ali 2, and the construction site of Ali 1 is located at About 30 kilometers south of Shiquanhe Town, where the Alibaba Prefecture Administration Office is located.

The Ali area is one of the world's most densely populated areas, with an average elevation of more than 4,000 meters above sea level. It has a dry climate, a unique geographical environment and the observatory infrastructure. It is the ideal place for observation of original gravitational waves in the Northern Hemisphere, and is favored by astronomers. .

According to reports, Ali 1 refers to an original gravitational wave telescope built at an altitude of 5,250 meters. It can obtain the most accurate polar data of the original gravitational wave in Beitian District. Ali 2 is a telescope array constructed at an altitude of 6,000 meters above sea level, which can further expand the observation frequency and improve the observation accuracy. The scientists will strive to achieve the Ali-1 observation operation by 2021 and obtain the first batch of scientific results.

The project was led by the National Institute of High Energy Physics. The National Astronomical Observatory, the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, the National Astronomical Observatory Shiquanhe Station, the University of Science and Technology of China, and the University of Tibet participated in the construction and received the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
