Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine Company's first NGD3.0 diesel engine was off the assembly line

On August 16, 2007, Dongfeng Chaoyang Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Dongfeng Chaochai”) officially launched the first NGD3.0 diesel engine, which marked the completion of Dongfeng Chaochai's product layout in the high-end light-duty diesel engine market. . Xu Ping, general manager and party secretary of the company, hopes that Dongfeng Chaochai will take the opportunity of NGD3.0 diesel engine to take the opportunity to further establish the idea of quality first, continuously open up the market, strengthen cost control and profitability analysis, and make Dongfeng Chaochai develop into China as soon as possible. A dazzling star in the automotive industry.
Ma Yue, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Liu Guoqiang, deputy governor of Liaoning Province, Fan Zhong, deputy secretary of the party committee, Zhou Wenjie, deputy general manager, Zhu Fushou, member of the party committee, Gu Linsheng, Song Yanguang, the old leader of the company, Song Yong, the mayor of Chaoyang Municipal Committee, and Zhang Tiemin, mayor, Representatives of automobile factories and suppliers at home and abroad have witnessed this historical moment.
Under the attention of everyone, Zhao Zhuang, general manager of Dongfeng Chaochai and Shang Weide, president of Navistar International, USA, pressed the ignition button.
Xu Ping delivered a warm speech at the off-line ceremony. He fully affirmed the development of Dongfeng Chaochai in recent years. He said that Dongfeng Chaochai not only provides power supply for Dongfeng Windmill, but also supports domestic well-known automobile OEMs such as Jianghuai Automobile and Yuejin Automobile. It not only keeps pace with the development of China's automobile industry, but also importantly, through continuous advancement. Advances in technology and management, product structure has been continuously enriched and improved, and market adaptability and competitiveness have been further enhanced.
Xu Ping pointed out that the NGD3.0 diesel engine has been substantially improved in terms of technical content, technological content, emission level and power. He firmly believes that Dongfeng Chaochai will be able to go faster and better.
NGD3.0 diesel engine is the crystallization of the successful cooperation between Dongfeng Chaochai and Navistar International. The product has high technology content, high technical level, strong power, durable and reliable, reasonable layout, compact structure, world-leading level and emission. Euro IV standard, with the upgrade capability of Euro V emission regulations, can be widely applied to various light trucks, off-road vehicles, pickup trucks and light buses. The NGD3.0 diesel engine will be the most anticipated and most attractive diesel engine in the domestic light vehicle market. At present, Dongfeng Chaochai has the capacity to assemble 30,000 sets of NGD3.0 diesel engines per year.
On behalf of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government, Liu Guoqiang expressed his warm congratulations on the successful launch of the NGD3.0 diesel engine. He hoped that Dongfeng Chaochai and the US Navistar International Company will give full play to their respective advantages and broaden their cooperation areas based on the principle of mutual benefit. We will expand the results of cooperation and make greater contributions to the development of China's automobile industry and the acceleration of the old industrial base in Liaoning Province.
After the off-line ceremony, the guests visited the Dongfeng Chaochai production line.

"Gravity Die Casting. A permanent mould casting process, where the molten metal is poured from a vessle of ladle into the mould, and cavity fills with no force other than gravity, in a similar manner to the production of sand castings, although filling cn be controlled by tilting the die."

Gravity Die Casting

Sometimes referred to as Permanent Mould, GDC is a repeatable casting process used for non-ferrous alloy parts, typically aluminium, Zinc and Copper Base alloys.

The process differs from HPDC in that Gravity- rather than high pressure- is used to fill the mould with the liquid alloy.

GDC is suited to medium to high volumes products and typically parts are of a heavier sections than HPDC, but thinner sections than sand casting.

There are three key stages in the process.

  1. The heated mould [Die or Tool] is coated with a die release agent. The release agent spray also has a secondary function in that it aids cooling of the mould face after the previous part has been removed from the die.
  2. Molten metal is poured into channels in the tool to allow the material to fill all the extremities of the mould cavity. The metal is either hand poured using steel ladles or dosed using mechanical methods. Typically, there is a mould [down sprue" that allows the alloy to enter the mould cavity from the lower part of the die, reducing the formation of turbulence and subsequent porosity and inclusions in the finished part.
  3. Once the part has cooled sufficiently, the die is opened, either manually or utilising mechanical methods.

Advantages

  • Good dimensional accuracy
  • Smoother cast surface finish than sand casting
  • Improved mechanical properties compared to sand casting
  • Thinner walls can be cast compared to sand casting
  • Reverse draft internal pockets and forms can be cast in using preformed sand core inserts
  • Steel pins and inserts can be cast in to the part
  • Faster production times compared to other processes.
  • Once the tolling is proven, the product quality is very repeatable.
  • Outsourced Tooling setup costs can be lower than sand casting.
