2014: China's new energy vehicles will enter the fast lane

I remember that in the second half of 2013, a friend sent a letter to the author to the effect that Tesla wanted to enter the Chinese market and asked Tesla’s sales staff to help him. At that time, the author did not particularly care.

After Tesla entered the Chinese market, it did attract many eyeballs and won a good applause. The price of 70,800,000 yuan, although it is still not able to enjoy the subsidies for new energy vehicles in China, it is really nothing for the hundreds of thousands of Chinese "local tyrants" who already have more than one car. It's like buying an advanced toy, and this toy does bring them some novel and exciting driving experience.

According to the person in charge of Tesla China, the current order in China has been scheduled for September. And plans to open stores in China's 10 to 12 cities in 2014. It is estimated that the sales volume in the Chinese market in 2014 will account for one-third of Tesla's global volume.

Needless to say, the advantages of Tesla electric vehicles are many and very clear, so we will not repeat them here. However, I am not optimistic about Tesla’s role in the domestic market for new energy vehicles. At least now Tesla does not have this capability. For example, Tesla is like a nobleman in the traditional car industry, Rolls-Royce, and Rolls-Royce has not been able to promote the popularity of traditional cars. It is Ford who really makes cars into every home. Ford can say that he really deserves credit for making mankind really enter the automobile society. Whether new energy vehicles can be developed and popularized as a means of daily transportation requires the emergence of another manufacturer in the new energy automotive industry that is positioned as an ordinary consumer like Ford Motor.

Of course, unlike traditional cars, the development of new energy vehicles has another, more important factor.

The key to new energy vehicles entering the practical stage is to first move up. Only more people can open up new energy vehicles in order to continuously improve in practice.

Unlike Tesla who buys Tesla from local residents, ordinary people buy new energy vehicles for daily use.

Analysis of the main development factors of new energy vehicles is actually 3 points: price, driving range and charging facilities (safety is also a major factor, but not in the scope of this article, and new energy vehicles can now be basically guaranteed in terms of security. ). Power batteries are the key to price and driving range. Therefore, with the current level of power battery technology, charging facilities are particularly important. This is the shortcoming of the development of new energy vehicles at this stage.

Charging facilities require high investment and are related to multiple interests. How to properly resolve this kind of conflict of interest is a difficult issue facing the new energy auto industry.

What is gratifying is that after entering 2014, there are various positive news about the above-mentioned development factors of new energy vehicles.

At the beginning of January and the end of January, Vice Premier Ma Kai and Premier Li Keqiang successively inspected BYD Shenzhen headquarters and Shaanxi factory. The attitude of the top leadership of the Central Government has a key influence on the development of the industry.

In early January, Beijing announced that the purchase of new energy minibuses will receive a total of 63,000 to 108,000 yuan in state and Beijing financial subsidies based on the different driving ranges, and will issue standards and policies for home charging piles. The State Grid will also promote the deployment of charging networks and achieve a 5-km charging cycle. It is estimated that about 1,000 charging piles will be built in 2014.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry, and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly announced the second batch of cities (regions) for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles. Together with the first batch of 28 at the end of 2013, the number of the country has reached 40, with a total of 87 cities.

Just after the Spring Festival of the Horse, the four ministries lowered the subsidy standard for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles in 2014 by 5%. At the same time, the central government will continue to implement the subsidy policy after the subsidy promotion policy expires. The new policy has increased the subsidy and is conducive to the promotion of new energy vehicles.

According to statistics from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in 2013, the production and sales volume of pure electric vehicles in the country were all over 14,000 vehicles. In 2014, the first minibus passenger car purchase index in Beijing, the number of applicants for new energy vehicles purchased reached 1,428. Calculating as such, sales throughout the year should be very optimistic.

More importantly, in China, the governance of smog pollution that has increasingly affected people's health is likely to prompt new energy vehicles to re-enter the fast-track development.
