QSTP--Help Chinese Parts Suppliers Enter OEM

At the China Auto Parts Industry Development Forum held on November 26th, Mr. Xiong, vice president of Purchasing from PAC China, introduced China's parts suppliers to an advanced concept of global procurement, which is also a requirement of international OEM customers. Quality, Service, Technology, and Price, or QSTP for short. Whether Chinese parts suppliers can become a qualified OEM depends on whether these four aspects can meet the requirements of foreign buyers.

The quality requirements of international customers are very strict, and for Chinese parts suppliers, this is a great test. According to Mr. Xiong, China's parts and components export products have experienced the same problems or have experienced some low-level problems that should not arise during the process of use, which all indicate that Chinese parts suppliers are still incomplete in the quality management system. The place. First of all, the quality control should be started in the early stage of production, but it cannot be hoped for and post-production inspection. Therefore, APQP should be established. On the other hand, it adopts the internationally accepted quality system, including ISO-9001, QS-9000, TS-16949, etc., and strives to achieve the same international quality.

Services are also a need for improvement for Chinese parts suppliers. Services are multi-faceted, including technical and quality services, warehouse management, timely delivery, rapid response capabilities and product emergency delivery needs. Many national buyers want to be able to get the best after-sales service after purchasing the product, especially when the product fails in an emergency. The supplier can provide on-site service quickly. However, China's parts suppliers are unable to meet the requirements of buyers because they are far away from their customers and there is basically no relevant institutional setup abroad. This is also a disadvantage of Chinese parts suppliers compared with their local suppliers.

In terms of technology, at present, China's spare parts suppliers usually take samples from abroad, then produce products according to their drawings and requirements, and then export them to foreign countries, generally lacking independent research and development capabilities. But foreign buyers want suppliers to be able to develop in parallel with them, not just product makers.

Prices are a sensitive topic for buyers and suppliers. The reason why foreign buyers purchase in low-cost countries is to obtain low-priced products. Xiong Pei introduced that for foreign purchasers, they have a psychological price point. First of all, the price of the products they purchase is lower than the price of 10% to 15% of their domestic counterparts. For Chinese suppliers of spare parts, if Calculating the long-distance logistics cost, which accounts for about 20% of the cost, the overall price is about 30% to 35% lower than similar foreign products. This price is very demanding for China's parts suppliers, but it also means the existence of opportunities. Because China has considerable advantages in terms of labor costs, mold costs, etc., high-quality, low-price requirements are likely to be achieved. (Wu Ying)
