Liu Xiangdong, Professor of China Agricultural University: It is Urgent to Develop Mechanized Drying of Grain (2)

Since the 1990s, with the in-depth development of rural reforms, China's rural economy and agricultural productivity have developed rapidly, and specialization and intensive scale management have also witnessed new development. Since 1996, foreign products have also entered the Chinese market and have driven the development of drying mechanization technology in southern rice production areas. At present, the amount of such dryers in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong has reached about 1,000 units.
Opportunities for conditional maturation are rare At present, China's grain drying and mechanization is faced with a rare opportunity for development: the rapid expansion of the combine harvester and the continuous deepening of the model of cross-regional operations of agricultural machinery, so that a large number of grains need to be promptly and quickly dried. Moreover, there are a large number of large grain producers who have the desire and requirements to use the dryer.
“At the same time, we should also clearly see the existence of constraints: one-time investment; long investment recovery period; the difference in grain quality is not obvious; grain cultivation operation is small, mechanical drying can not yet form a scale operation, It is impossible to obtain good economic benefits. In the interest-driven market economy, there is a lack of driving force for development.” To this end, Liu Xiangdong made the following recommendations:
The key commodity grain production areas, breeding and processing and promotion centers for improved varieties, areas where it is difficult to dry naturally during the harvest season with rain and low temperatures, areas where the rural economy is more developed, and areas where highways are used for a long time for drying are the primary targets for the development of grain drying and mechanization.
Establish a professional technical service organization for grain drying mechanization. Through the agricultural machinery promotion department and experts who have experience in drying, a professional technical service organization is organized to provide services for new units and individuals on the drying line. Governments at all levels should support the establishment of agricultural machinery extension departments, and provide investors with policy support in the areas of loans, site use, industry and commerce, and taxation when buying, and provide guidance and encourage collectives, individuals, and partners to purchase. At the same time, it is necessary to build and establish a model of large batches of grain self-use and service organizations in a centralized manner on the basis of operation and management. Through hard work, it gradually scales up its operations and achieves profitability, so that the grain drying mechanization technology will mature and develop steadily.
